Artists bring back PLAY! at a playground through improvisations, celebrating the power of play and a curious mind.
Feb 2021 - Aug 2021
In the shadow of the pandemic's isolating impact, the playground emerged as a poignant symbol of lost playfulness. Responding to this absence, PLAY! was born.
HIGHLIGHTS
A series of multi-disciplinary improvised performances unfolded, supported by the National Arts Council’s Digital Presentation Grant, paying homage to the carefree joy momentarily stolen during almost a year of isolation and loss of connection brought about by the pandemic.
A group of 5 artists, all differently impacted by last year, came together to bring the playground to life. A movement artist, a classical pianist, a filmmaker, and an electronic music artist, made the playground home and responded to the sounds around to create this work.
This convergence was a tribute to the innocence of play that the pandemic briefly suspended. Curious spectators soon joined in the fun as the playground transformed into a haven where spontaneous, creative expression reignited spirits and celebrated the joy of human connection and imaginative play.
